get
involved

We are a community that serves together.

CBC has a vision to compassionately serve others in the community by showing the love of Jesus in a practical way. We seek to serve the local community around the church building and the global community around the world. The ministries such as Second Saturday Supper, Hot Chocolate Ministry, Afternoon Club, and Second Harvest Food Drive reach needy people in our local community. Yearly mission trips and monthly mission offerings support those who serve in other countries. There are many ways to get involved in sharing Jesus' love whether it is locally serving the needy or internationally supporting our missionaries (or going on a mission trip). Together we can reach the world for Christ.

God has given us diverse abilities and interests

There are dozens of ways to be involved in our church community, many of which are not even represented on this site. These are merely a small sampling of the many ways you can use the gifts that God has given you to serve Him in this community.

If you are interested in serving in a way that isn't on the website, please feel free to speak to a pastor.

Afternoon Club

Our church began as an outreach to children in our neighborhood, and we continue that tradition of reaching out through our Afternoon Club. When children (Kindergarten-5th grade) get off the school bus on Tuesday afternoons, they are invited to the Afternoon Club, where have a time of games and hanging out, then we have a healthy snack, we help them with homework, and have a short Bible lesson. It is a great way to get to know the families in the neighborhood!

Hot Chocolate Ministry

Our church has the amazing and awesome privilege of having hundreds of children and middle schoolers (and their parents) on our doorsteps every day of the school year (which includes year-round schools). So 9 months out of the year, we offer hot chocolate once a week to the children and parents waiting to catch the bus in the morning.

We offer hot chocolate on Wednesday mornings from 7:00-8:00am. This is a great way to offer God’s love in a small, tangible way, and get to know the families in our neighborhood!

We meet...

During the school year, every Wednesday at CBC, from 7:00-8:00am

Mission Ministry Team

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'" – Romans 10:14-15

The Mission Ministry connects the church to mission work, both local and global, by building awareness and educating about missions through monthly giving, local outreach, and cross-cultural missions. This year the team wants to focus on making missions more concrete and personal by: having missions speakers come and share, giving to missions groups we are personally connected to, getting as personally involved in missions as possible, going on church-wide missions trips, and provide honorarium to missions speakers not supported through the monthly offering.

Second Saturday Supper

This ministry reaches out to homeless and needy people in the San Mateo community and SF peninsula. Nursery

"Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, 'Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.'" – Luke 18:16

The Nursery is a place for little ones (ages 3 months - 36 months). We aim to create a safe, caring environment where the babies and toddlers can play and know that they are loved. We have a consistent nursery worker who is there nearly every Sunday, as well as a minimum of one other volunteer. All our nursery workers and volunteers have gone through a background check. Those who work in the nursery help play with the little ones, engaging their senses, and maintaining a safe environment. We also have a pager system for parents, so that if their child needs them to return to the nursery, we can contact them with the pager.

Preschool Time

The Preschool classes are geared for the learning needs of 3-5 year olds who have not yet attended kindergarten. They learn Bible stories, sing songs, make crafts, and play games, all related to learning about how God created them and loves them.

Jesus loves the little children, and so do we.

    and obeying his commands."

The Welcome Team

"Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me. And anyone who welcomes me also welcomes the one who sent me." – Matthew 10:40 (Contemporary English Version)

These instructions by Jesus to his twelve disciples form the foundation for the Welcome Team Ministry at Community Baptist Church. The Team is comprised of members who volunteer on a weekly rotation to serve on this First Line Ministry, presenting the "face" of the church for people checking CBC out for the first time and greeting everyone into our Sunday worship service.

Team responsibilities also include handing out the service bulletins, taking the offering, presenting gifts to first time visitors, providing information as needed, and maintaining a God-focused and worshipful atmosphere.

We ask that you...

Are warm, friendly, have a helpful attitude, and a great smile.
